The
s::can spectro::lyser. Flexibility and precision.
The
revolutionary s::can spectro::lyser is an optical multi parameter
probe. This technology allows you to measure numerous parameters
that usually require the use of several different cabinet analysers.
COD concentrations from g/l down to the µg/l region are
calculated from the complete optical UV/Visible spectrum
using an algorithm specifically calculated for your application,
enabling a level of precision and long term stability that has not
been possible until now. The s::can spectro::lyser can be operated
in the internal data-logger mode, via PC/laptop, or via our industrial
terminal "con::stat".
Eight
concurrently available parameters can be set up using pre set calibrations.
All
of the functions of a high quality 2-beam laboratory spectrometer
are packed into the ultra-compact and robust field instrument. s::can's
advanced software options allow the utilisation of both standard
parameters such as COD, CODf, solids, nitrate and more plus the
raw spectral information for rapid and effective investigative work
on almost any liquid stream.

SPECTRUM
IS A UNIQUE MONITORING TECHNIQUE utilising UV/Vis spectroscopic
analysis and flow data in addition to traditional measurements to
provide wastewater characterisation TO AN UNPRECEDENTED LEVEL OF
ACCURACY
Wastewater
characterisation studies provide critical foundation data for the
process selection, design and operation of all wastewater treatment
plants. To achieve economic design of treatment processes along
with continued optimisation it is imperative that accurate concentration
and load data for key parameters is provided. Traditional characterisation
techniques are based on a sample collection and analysis programme
that utilises composite or grab samples often collected over a short
timeframe. Recent advances in field instrumentation have removed
many of the errors and uncertainties inherent in traditional methods.

Determination
of COD in a Meat Processing Waste Using the s::can spectro::lyser
The
accurate and rapid determination of waste strength in food processing
wastes is important for many reasons:
- High strength wastes and uncontrolled
variability in waste strength may represent the loss of valuable
product.
- Trade waste costs paid to a Water Authority
are usually based on the strength of the waste discharged.
Accurate and timely measurement ensures accurate chargining.
- Knowledge of the strength of incoming
waste allows plant operators to optimise treatment processes and
to verify compliance with trade waste agreements.
The
s::can spectro::lyser offers an opportunity to measure COD directly
on-line without the use of other chemicals.

Measurement of COD and Suspended Solids in a Brewery Waste using
the s::can spectro::lyser
The
accurate and rapid determination of waste strength from food manufacturing
industries is important to help control the loss of valuable product
and to provide accurate information on which trade waste limits
and charges can be checked. The s::can spectro::lyser
offers the opportunity to rapidly study the effect of treatment
over a full range of wavelenths, at multiple sites without having
to wait for laboratory data.
